The problematic

Large pallets producers and recyclers generate important tonnage of wood wastes. These wastes were burnt or used as mulch but with little revenue. The company was searching for various alternatives. Biochar may offer the solution, but the company did not know much about it.

The solution

GECA has evaluated the project and concluded that it could significantly help making a more environmentally friendly solution and additional revenue. GECA supported the company in understanding the role of biochar through various discussions and a market study. GECA has evaluated and suggested suitable technologies for the project’s constraints, tonnage and objectives.

The impact

The client has selected the technology and is now testing its performance in pyrolyzing these pallet wastes. This will allow the transformation of 10,000 tons of wastes yearly, resulting in about 5,000 t of tons of CO&amp;lt;sub&amp;gt;2&amp;lt;/sub&amp;gt;e per year. &amp;amp;nbsp;
