Summary report on the potential environmental impacts and social implications of biochar

This summary report accompanies a series of technical reports, which aim to collate and review current evidence on the potential environmental impacts and social science of five greenhouse gas (GHG) removal technologies: ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE), enhanced rock weathering (ERW), biochar, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), and direct air carbon capture and storage (DACCS). This summary report synthesises the evidence relating to the potential impacts of biochar and highlights where evidence gaps exist.
