At the request of the American Biochar Institute (ABI), GECA is leading the committee developing a North American standard for biochar production.
Supported by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), the committee is preparing the document for consideration as an ASTM standard.
The initiative brings together biochar producers, technical experts, and stakeholders from across the industry’s value chain. The standard will establish a consistent framework for biochar production, including production practices, process control, documentation, and traceability.
By reflecting both scientific knowledge and operational realities, the standard will help strengthen consistency, transparency, and confidence across the North American biochar industry.
